The journey for a State Championship continued for several teams in Coconut Creek, including a District and Region Championship and senior night in football.
For the first time since 2010, the North Broward Prep girls volleyball team advanced to the State Championship following a three-set win over Mater Lakes Academy, 25-19, 25-19, 25-14, to win a Region Title. The Eagles won 19 matches during the regular season and have not dropped a set in five postseason matches after previously winning a Distinct Championship. Yasmin Dias Tonan and Jayda Palumbo each had 13 kills in the latest match, while Dasia Johnson had 12. Destiny Wiggins led the team with 15 digs, and Emma Luherd had 32 assists. NBP is the top seed at the State Championship and ranks eighth in the state. They will play Lemon Bay High School in the final four, with the winner set to play either Merritt Island or South Walton High School.
The NBP boys’ golf team recently finished fourth at the District Championship. Cooper Roth led the way for the boys with a 75 to place ninth. Alexander Lavan shot a 78 and finished 14th, while Elliot Fishman recorded a 79. Max Greselle and Jiayi Wang each competed for the boys as well and shot an 80 and 81, respectively. Tingting Zhuang, Jesera Mendez, Ava Koury, Cooper Aucoin, Jordan Ellis, and McKenna Hanna all qualified for Regionals for the girls’ team. At Regionals, Fishman led the boys with an 80, followed by Wang, Gessele, Lavan, and Roth.
The cross country team ran at Florida State University, with Willis Gillis finishing 28th in 16:39.3. Eric Levy was next, finishing 34th, followed by Cayden Nassar, Levi Bekker, and Ari Arbel. They then competed at Districts at South Country Regional Park and came in third as a team while Gillis took first place with a time of 15:59.6. Caden Nassar placed seventh, followed by Bekker, Arbel, Daniel Robles, Jackson Rivers, Calvin Lukens, Josh Dewey, and Alexander Vafai. The swim team had Simon Sheffield, Simon Gonzalvez, Jordin Bekker, Radhika Nanavati, and Madi Laski, along with six relay teams, advance through Districts.
