Michael McLaughlin ‘One of the Best Tackles in the Country’ Makes College Decision

Although Michael McLaughlin committed to the University of Miami nine months ago, the star left tackle from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School made it official.

On Wednesday, McLaughlin officially signed to be a Miami Hurricane in front of a small gathering of his family, coaches, and friends in Parkland’s Heron Bay.

“I am excited to be a Hurricane,” said McLaughlin. “There has been a lot of stuff this year that have sucked, so to have a break from that and have a small gathering is really good. I can’t wait to get into the strength and conditioning program and see the physical gains I make.”

McLaughlin grew up in Indiana, where he played football as a child, but only became a left tackle during his junior season. Miami offered him a scholarship to play there, and despite an injury last season and only two games this year, he is regarded as one of the best tackles in the country.

“It’s an awesome day for him, his family, and for our program,” said Head Coach Quentin Short. “Nobody works any harder than Mike, and he has earned it. It is going to give us two linemen at the University of Miami with Mike and Corey Gaynor.”

After graduating from MSD in December, McLaughlin will practice with his new teammates and have four full seasons to play college football.
