Are you ready for fireworks, barbeques, traveling, enjoying Broward’s beautiful beaches, visiting our awesome parks, or simply reading a good book with your feet up? Well, summer is here! July 4 is everyone’s favorite with traditions to celebrate our great nation. Please remember to leave the major fireworks displays to the professionals. Celebrating our nation’s birthday is one of the glorious events of the summer—enjoy all the festivities and be safe.

Our Broward County Libraries offer great programs all year; summer months are no exception. From summer reading lists to arts and crafts for the kids, lectures for the grown-ups, and even participating in science experiments, they have it all. Some activities travel into different neighborhoods. There’s “Story Walk” at the Coral Square Mall, and through our online resource center at Broward.org/Library, you can bring them right into your home. I hope you utilize these great resources and check out some of the summer activities at your local library. The options are wide and varied to fit every age level. Visit Broward.org/Library for more information.

Let’s make this a healthy summer for all. Our Broward County Parks offer countless opportunities to get outside and have some fun. The Horsemasters summer camp at Tradewinds Park and Stables teaches all the basics of horsemanship, from learning how to ride, grooming your horse, and embracing the wonders of these beautiful, loving animals. Looking for a bite to eat? On July 7, Broward’s Tree Tops Park will host the Food Truck Frenzy! Have a need for speed? The Rosewood Series Cycling Race will be held on July 10 at Vista View Park. Information for all these events, camps, and other opportunities can be found at Broward.org/Parks.

Although no one wants summer to come to an end, we must think ahead and plan for the school year. The Florida Back-to-School Tax-Free Holiday is back! Running from July 25 to August 7 is a great time to stock up and save on all school supplies. From clothes to notebooks, backpacks, and everything in between, this is the time to visit your local retailer for savings. Taxes will not be charged on clothes under $100, books for school under $50, and even on some computers. These savings are a great help to families in our community, and if you can, please remember to buy an extra item or two and donate to a local school or charity that supports those in need.
