Broward Mayor Udine: June Marks the Beginning of Hurricane Season

Broward County Mayor Michael Udine

By Mayor Michael Udine

June marks the beginning of hurricane season and signals that we must get prepared.

What does that mean? Have a plan! Create a checklist, stock up on nonperishables such as canned goods and water and get the essentials in place, including supplies for pets. Have a plan to evacuate if needed. We prefer you stay with a relative or friend—but know where your shelter is and communicate your plan with members of your family. Please visit broward.org/hurricane and visit your city’s website for important information to prepare for hurricane season.

Summer vacation is here, and Broward is ready!  Whether you are planning to stick around or get away we can handle all your needs. Did you know that Port Everglades has added cruises with Disney and Ritz Carlton Cruise Lines?

Consider the cooler temperatures of the north country and see what flights from the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport will get you there! Take some time for a barbeque with the family and friends right here at home. I am looking forward to summer, and I hope you enjoy a relaxing getaway or a cannonball (or two) in the pool this season.

Summer means lots of programming opportunities at Broward County Libraries and Parks! Whether you need to find that great book to relax with from the summer reading list, explore nature on one of the many nature trails, or find your field of dreams for an afternoon of baseball you can do it all in Broward. Check out the calendars for special summer events for the whole family at broward.org. We can not wait to see you!

I would like to congratulate the Class of 2022. Whether graduating high school or college, savor this accomplishment but know this is just the beginning of the road.

A degree or a diploma showcases your commitment to hard work in the pursuit of learning. As you enter the professional world always strive to continue to learn and make a difference for our community and country. Congratulations Class of 2022! You did it!

Finally, I would like to wish all the dads out there a Happy Father’s Day. Kids need great role models in their lives; big brothers and sisters, teachers, and all who choose to take on this role in the development of a child deserve to be applauded.  So, kick up your feet dads—have a cool beverage, a barbeque, and families do not forget to give a hug to the cook. You deserve a great day!
