The City of Parkland announces Kuntal Choksi as its artist of the month.
A self-taught creator, Choksi was raised in India, where he studied art, culture, yoga, and spirituality, believing that “art is a journey of the soul, which never ends.”
Choksi has lived in Parkland since 2013 with his wife, their two young children, and his father, who are all interested in art and music. In his free time, he enjoys playing Indian music on his keyboard and paper quilling, which is the art of taking thin strips of colored paper, rolling them into a coil, pinching them to form a shape, and gluing the shapes together to create paper designs.
“Every month, we have a different artist send a sample of their work, and then we choose an artist of the month,” said Michelle Andrews, Library Manager.
For several years, artist of the month fits well with the library’s new expansion that includes a children’s wing and a connecting hallway dedicated to displaying the works of local artists.
“We like nice big, colorful, creative artwork,” added Andrews.
Choksi’s work fits that bill with his bold, vivid, and vibrant color schemes, including landscapes, animals, flowers, and ethnic Indian works. He paints with acrylic, oil paints, pastels, and mixed media on canvas and enjoys creating digital artwork on an iPad and laptop.
His work will be on display October 1 through October 30 and includes a meet and greet on October 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
