The City of Parkland played host to the 43rd Annual Pioneer Day event last Saturday at City Hall.
Pioneer Day is an opportunity for individuals to be recognized for contributions they have made to their communities. This annual event celebrates the men and women who have been selected as Broward County Pioneers where they join a distinguished group of over 2,000 other Pioneers that have been honored since the program began in 1972.
Before the event, the city welcomed the nominees, friends and family to a luncheon outside of city hall where the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Jazz Combo entertained the guests.
“If you’ve never driven around Parkland, take some time to drive around – this is the most beautiful city you’ve ever seen,” Parkland Historical Society President Jeff Schwartz told the crowd.
In attendance were: Parkland Mayor Christine Hunschofsky, Broward County Mayor Barbara Sharief, Broward County Commissioner Michael Udine, Parkland Vice Mayor Stacy Kagan, Deputy Vice Mayor Ken Cutler, and Commissioner Grace Solomon.
The program was led by Broward County Historic Preservation Board Vice Chair Sheldon McCartney who introduced the municipalities and the historical groups who named their nominees.
