The City of Coconut Creek has begun the process of creating a memorial to honor victims of the Holocaust.

The city commission approved $50,000 of public art funds in the fiscal year budget to build the Memorial, estimated to take about 15 months to complete.

City leaders will select an artist; then, the monument will be designed, built, and installed at the Coconut Creek Government Center at 4800 West Copans Road.

Commissioner Jeffrey Wasserman is leading the effort to create the Memorial, according to Yvonne Lopez, spokesperson for Coconut Creek.
