Cousins From Marjory Stoneman Douglas Football Team Excelling in College

After dominating high school football at Marjory Stoneman Douglas, Corey Gaynor and his younger cousin, Gage, are shining with their respective colleges.

Parkland residents Corey and Gage graduated from MSD three years apart, and each has gone on to contribute to their respective college program.

Corey Gaynor

Corey spent three years on the MSD football team and was a three-star recruit coming out of high school. As a freshman at the University of Miami, he made one start in ten appearances, including the ACC Championship Game and the Capital One Orange Bowl.

Corey only played in four games the following season and used that year as a redshirt before becoming a permanent starter in 2020. After Miami’s first game, he was named ACC Offensive Linemen of the Week when his team rushed for 337 yards.

This season, playing alongside Marjory Stoneman Douglas teammate Michael McLaughlin, Corey has been the starting center contributing to a pair of wins.

Gage Gaynor

Corey’s younger cousin, Gage, has also found himself playing college football after spending four seasons with the Eagles.

He went on to sign at Colorado State after being ranked the 35th best center in the country and made his college debut in 2020 as a freshman against Boise State. This season, his team picked up their first win against the Univerity of Toledo.

Earlier this year, Gaynor was recognized along with 38 other players for being named to the Fall Academic All-Mountain West Honors for having a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.

Corey and Gage are not the only two members of their family to compete in college. Chris Gaynor, Corey’s brother, went to MSD and played two seasons of junior college before attending Texas Christian University before graduating in 2018.

MSD has several former players competing at the next level and recently had six more sign his past year. It will not be very long before an Eagle breaks through and make it to the NFL.
