Dog found on Hillsboro Boulevard in Parkland

During a bicycle ride around the Heron Bay community in Parkland, Stephanie Schwab, saw something on the side of the road that wasn’t there the day before: the body of a large animal wrapped in duct tape and plastic lying on its side.
Located close to the road, just 500 yards west of the Nob Hill Road and Hillsboro Blvd intersection, Schwab realized it was a dog and that its body had been carefully wrapped, then dumped.
Around 12:00 p.m. she called 911. Dispatch asked her if the dog was still breathing. She said there was no way the dog was still breathing as she looked at its lifeless body. Within a few minutes, the Parkland Broward Sheriff’s Office pulled up and an officer determined that the dog was dead. Upon closer inspection of the animal, they discovered the front and back legs were tied together, flies were swarming on/over the stiff body and blood/injuries were on observed to the head.
Schwab describes the dog as being large in size with long golden hair peeking out from beneath the white towel that covered it. Its face was covered in two types of plastic and black duct tape was wrapped all over its body.
After officers responded to the call, Captain Chris Mulligan said they immediately contacted Broward County Animal Care who took the dog’s remains to a Coral Springs vet for a necropsy.
“Hopefully, the dog has the chip,” said Schwab, who wondered if there could be a vet who has records of the dog and through that, locate the owner.
She hopes the dog wasn’t tortured. However, it seemed strange to her that someone would go to such great lengths in covering the dog, if he was already dead.
“I’m upset. How can anyone do this?” Schwab said. “This by far is the worse thing to happen to a dog in this area. I have no words.”
