Marjory Stoneman Douglas has another wide receiver is set to play college football as Lamari Penaloza committed to playing at Feltrim Academy in Haines City.
“It feels great,” Penaloza said. “Honestly, it still doesn’t feel real to me yet.”
Penaloza played on the varsity football team for one year and recorded 14 catches for 200 yards. He also recorded a touchdown against Coral Glades, helping the Eagles go 6-3 in the regular season and compete in the State Playoffs.
Prior to this, he played for J.P. Taravella for a year and Coconut Creek High School for two.
A resident of Coral Springs, Penaloza began playing football at age six and competed for the North West Broward Raiders, Pompano Cowboys, and Tamarac Cougars. He also became a huge fan of Odell Beckham of the Los Angeles Rams and credited him along with Head Coach Quentin Short and his teammates for getting him to this point.
“He is very talented and will benefit from another year at prep school and then will get a chance to move on to next level,” said Coach Short.

Penaloza says his decision to attend Feltrim Academy came down to two reasons.
“They offered me the best deal, and they were telling me about how many players on their team that received an offer and how many of their players committed to different schools,” Penaloza said.
After Penaloza graduates from MSD this spring, he will be joining a program that went 4-0 in 2021.
