The Parkland Equestrian Center will be once again transformed into a boot camp-style obstacle course when over 1,300 people compete in the 7th Annual Soldier Rush.
Manuel Mair, a former Marine, and owner of One to One Fitness in Coral Springs created the challenge for all skill levels.
On Saturday, November 6, starting at 6:30 a.m., participants will attempt 20 acres of obstacles, from climbing over walls to carrying large objects through a race over three miles long.
“We’re excited to be back in person,” said Mair, who held it virtually in 2020. “This year, our goal is to raise $50,000 and have over 1,000 racers,” he said. “We are looking to make an even larger impact with our community veterans and first responders.”
The event supports Fitness on a Mission, a nonprofit organization promoting events like Soldier Rush. All proceeds received will benefit recognized and qualified charities that give to veterans, first responders, their families, and others in need.
“The need in our community is great, and we are honored to be able to help fulfill those requirements by supporting the people who defend our nation, our community, and are ready to respond the moment we call for help,” said Mair.
Kevin Tacher, CEO of Independence Title, has been training with Mair for three years, losing 100 pounds in the process.
As a former firefighter, he decided to step up and support the local event as its title sponsor because of his emotional involvement in the cause.
“I love everything it stands for,” said Tacher. “I was a New York Firefighter, my daughter is a senior at MSD, and it’s a great way to support the community.”
Among the race contenders competing for bragging rights are Mayor Rich Walker, Coral Springs Mayor Scott Brook, and Broward County Vice Mayor Michael Udine.
Participants are encouraged to dress patriotically, and medals will be awarded finishers, category winners, best costume, and largest team.
