An Amazon driver was charged with DUI and property damage after a witness observed her driving erratically through the Parkland community of Heron Estates.
On Friday, Nov. 26, the Broward Sheriff’s Office responded to the 11900 block of NW 66th Court about a traffic crash.
According to the report, a resident witnessed an Amazon truck driver run over a cul-de-sac, then collide with his neighbor’s black Audi A6.
The witness stated a blue Amazon van was circling the street when the vehicle’s driver ran over a cul-de-sac, sideswiping the Audi parked along the swale, then continuing to drive away towards the exit.
According to the report, deputies observed minor damage along the side of the Audi, tire marks in the grass of the cul-de-sac, and damaged foliage.
Amazon supervisor Evans Louis drove to the area of the suspect’s route when he noticed she was very delayed. While attempting to locate her, he was flagged down by the victim, who notified him of what happened.
Louis had tracking capabilities and advised the deputy she was traveling to the next subdivision — Edgewood. They drove to the area and observed her driving into the community. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and identified her as Dalia Maria Guay Almora, 57, of Lauderhill.
After smelling alcohol, the deputy asked Almora to exit the vehicle. According to the arrest report, she had watery eyes, slurred speech, and unsteadiness on her feet.
Almora asked why she was being stopped, and the deputy informed her she was in a traffic crash, which she denied insisting she only backed over a mailbox. The deputy noted there were no damaged mailboxes at the scene of the accident.
According to the report, another deputy conducted a sobriety test; however, he could not complete it in fear Almora would injure herself.
Almora was arrested for DUI, and while gathering her personal belongings from the Amazon van, a deputy observed a water bottle in the cupholder with a clear liquid that smelled like alcohol.
Once in custody, Almora declined to submit to a breath test. She was transported to the Broward County Main Jail, where she posted a $500 bond the following day.
