The Parkland Tennis Center hopes to put a USTA League National Championship banner on its courts this fall.

On October 7, the City of Parkland over 40 National Tennis Rating Program 4.0 will compete against 16 other teams at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center.

At the same time, the over-18 NTRP 4.5 will compete against 17 other teams at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex in Arizona.

Les Liese, the coordinator of the Parkland USTA teams, is excited about the upcoming National championship opportunity. Through the 2022 season, the league has won two sectional and nine Broward County local championships.

“The important thing… is we practice as teams three or four times a week to compete for championships. Out of 12 leagues, we won nine. Broward County has one of the top USTA leagues in the Nation, and it shows with the quality of the members we have,” he said.

Alex Caldenna, co-captain of the over-18 NTRP 4.5, will coach the team in Surprise, Arizona.

All matches will be played on a hard court, and teams will compete in four randomly selected matches. The top four teams, based on standings, will advance to the semi-finals, followed by the finals.

Founded in 2017, the Parkland Tennis Center now has approximately 250 members and five different developmental levels.

Prospective members may contact Les at 954-253-0001 or Dana Simhom, tennis representative, at 954-275-8819. To view class status, go here.
