Coconut Creek’s City Manager, Karen Brooks, is set to retire on April 5th after a long and successful career with the city.

Brooks has served the city for 27 years and became city manager on October 4, 2019.

“I have enjoyed working with the people of Coconut Creek, and it has been a positive experience. My biggest accomplishment was leading the creation of the Coconut Creek Fire Department,” said Brooks.

According to Mayor Joshua Rydell, Brooks will be missed by residents and staff of Coconut Creek.

“She has been a dedicated public servant for three decades and has maintained the city’s financial viability. She has done a good job for the residents of Coconut Creek,” he said.

Brooks has managed the city’s $179 million budget, 512 full-time equivalent employees, and day-to-day operations. She began with Coconut Creek in May 1997 as the city’s controller and was named director of finance and administrative services in 2002.

In 2016, she became assistant city manager and, in 2017, was named deputy city manager and chief financial officer, according to the Coconut Creek website.

Before coming to Coconut Creek, she worked for Tamarac for ten years in various financial positions, according to the city’s website.

During the March 7 meeting, the Commission will discuss selecting a new city manager.
