Coconut Creek Commission Names Sheila Rose as Next City Manager

Sheila Rose is named the next City Manager of Coconut Creek.

Coconut Creek will soon have a new leader.

During the March 14 meeting, the commission unanimously appointed Sheila Rose, deputy city manager, as the incoming city manager.

Rose will replace Karen Brooks, who announced her retirement commencing on April 5. Rose received praise from Mayor Josh Rydell and the commissioners. Rydell believes Rose is the right person to lead Coconut Creek because of her experience and ability to lead the MainStreet project.

“I believe we have the right person in the house. Rose is the future and the person we need to appoint. The next step is development, and Rose has her thumb on that,” said Rydell.

Vice Mayor Sandra Welch said she believes Rose is very professional, kind, and respectful when dealing with residents. “I cannot think of a better person, and I want you to be our city manager. The breadth of your talent and intellect is broad,” said Welch,

Commissioner Jackie Railey praised Rose and believed her knowledge and experience in developing the city were necessary. Commissioner John Brodie also said he considers Rose’s experience with MainStreet essential. He added that he has spoken extensively with Rose and is impressed with her extensive knowledge of development.

Commissioner Jeffrey Wasserman is impressed with Rose and her knowledge of the city. “You deserve it. You have worked hard to reach a pinnacle in life to get a job like this. You are joy, and you are responsive,” he said.

“I appreciate the sentiment. I am focused on the dirt and construction, and I have learned much from Karen about doing the right thing,” said Rose. “I am very committed to the job, the city, and the staff. We have so many great department heads and individuals who shine,” she said.

Ryell instructed the city attorney to begin work on a contract with Rose by March 28.

According to the city, Rose is a certified land planner with extensive experience in environmental planning, corridor analysis, site and urban planning and design, transportation planning, ordinance and code writing, and other areas of city administration. She has a professional urban and regional planning degree from the University of Cincinnati. She is a member of the International City Managers Association, the Broward County Managers Association, and other professional associations.
