On February 22, the Coconut Creek Commission unanimously approved the first reading of an ordinance for a site plan allowing phase one of MainStreet at Coconut Creek to proceed.

The ordinance was requested by David Auld of Johns Family Partners, one of the developers, to permit 472 multi-family residential units in a section known as Block 4.

There will be five apartment buildings, each with five stories. Units will range from one to four bedrooms with a planned five-story parking garage for 400 cars and additional spaces for outside parking.

Commissioner Jackie Railey said the new project would have many amenities, including a swimming pool, fitness center, and much green space. There will be a park area for people to spend time with family and friends, a dog park area, and lakes.

“The MainStreet development will draw people from outside the area. Eventually, retail and restaurant spaces will be created. It will be the center of Coconut Creek,” said Railey.

The first phase includes 12 acres north of Sample Road and west of Lyons Road. This development will be a major hub for Coconut Creek when completed in about seven years. According to Railey, stores, restaurants, rental apartments, condominiums, and townhomes will be there.

The commission will approve this ordinance on March 7, but it is just the first step of many toward completing the project.

The project’s land was originally a farm owned by the Johns family. According to Railey, the entire MainStreet project will involve about 200 acres in central Coconut Creek between Lyons Road and State Road 7 and between Wiles Road and Sample Road.

“We are excited about this project, which is one of the largest ones in the area. It will dwarf Uptown Boca,” said Mayor Joshua Rydell.
