Coconut Creek’s postseason run was much shorter in the winter after a successful fall sports season that was highlighted by the football team.

The boys basketball team won two games, with both of their victories coming in December against Somerset Academy South Homestead Village Academy. The Cougars finished the regular season 2-18 and earned the sixth seed in the postseason before losing 70-26 against Atlantic High School. They will have six players from their team graduate this year: Keyon Holtzclaw, Hinslee Prospere, McKevan Bell, Panell Charles, Jordan Weatherspoon, and Josh Smith.

The girls basketball team lost against Dwyer 53-11 to finish the season 8-11. The Cougars came into the postseason as the fifth seed and were led by Abigail Theopile, who averaged over 12 points per game in the regular season. She will return next year for her senior year, along with the seven other players. Tessan Parchment is the lone senior on the team.

The boys’ soccer team managed to win a single postseason game, where they defeated Hollywood Hills High School by a score of 6-0. Cehnari Bron scored two goals, while Wickenson Alexandre contributed one goal and two assists, Clevice Joseph scored one goal and assisted another, and Herdy Clermont and Jovens Alexis also scored a goal each. Cameron Henery provided an assist to one of the goals.

The Cougars then lost 3-0 against second-seeded Suncoast High School and did not make Regionals. Coconut Creek finished the season 9-6-2. Their seniors are Mario Walter, Schwenley Joseph, Alexandre, and Denex Cheri.

The girls soccer team did not qualify for the District Tournament and had their only win against Stranahan High School. The Cougars won 2-0 and finished the season 1-10-2.

Coconut Creek now turns its attention to the spring season. The baseball team is coming off a year where they went 5-9-1, while the boy’s volleyball team won seven games and will open their season against Monarch High School on March 3. The Cougars will also be competing in track and field and flag football, while the varsity football team will begin spring practices.
