A local school employee is one of six finalists for School Related District Employee of the Year at Broward County Public Schools. This award recognizes outstanding education support personnel for the significant contributions they make to BCPS and its students.

Teresa Basilone, Office Manager/Confidential Secretary is a finalist from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and was selected because in her 22 years of service to BCPS, she has never lost the enthusiasm, devotion and passion that she brings to work each day

Besides being the Office Manager/Confidential Secretary, Basilone takes on numerous other responsibilities including fundraising, community outreach and advocating for her school’s students and families.

“This honor stirs feelings of immense pride and appreciation, and serves as a sign that my actions continue to fall in line with my ideals and principles,” said Basilone.

A caring and encouraging mentor, she provides hands-on assistance to help students with whatever they need. “Ms. Basilone tackles everything that comes to her with dedication and a smile,” said Principal Ty Thompson.

Being a finalist is no easy task. First, nominations are submitted from schools, staff, students, parents and/or community members. Next, the nominees are invited to complete application packets. During the final stage, a District screening committee reviews the application packets, and interviews the top six candidates. The one with the highest combined application and interview scores is selected as the School Related District Employee of the Year.
