{Columbia Women’s Basketball}

Former Marjory Stoneman Douglas girls basketball player Abbey Hsu continues setting records in college basketball at Columbia University.
On December 12, Hsu scored 19 points in the third quarter in the team’s game against UMass. She finished the night with 24 points which are the second-highest points Hsu has scored in a game this year. She previously had scored 27 in an overtime win over Georgetown and had a career-high of 31 as a freshman.
Two days later, Hsu moved into tenth place all-time in three-pointers with 110 during the Lions’ 65-55 win over Long Island University. She recently scored her 600th career point in the team’s last game.
Hsu currently ranks just outside the top-50 in the nation with 18.2 points per game and has helped lead her team to a 9-3 start, the best start for them since 2016.
During her freshmen season, Hsu, a Parkland resident, was a five-time Ivy League Rookie of the Week and two-time conference Player of the Week. She also made the Division I All-Rookie team, named NCAA Freshman of the Week, and was an honorable mention to the inaugural ‘Her Hoop Stats Fab 15 Freshmen list.’
Hsu saw similar success when playing her junior season for MSD. She led her team to a 28-3 record during the 2016-17 season and knocked down 34 three-pointers, helping the Eagles win their last District Championship.
Next, Columbia plays Hofstra in New York Dec. 28 at 5 p.m. With their 9-3 start, Hsu may have the chance to participate in the NCAA tournament for the first time.
