Although Marjory Stoneman Douglas boys basketball team’s ten-game winning streak came to an end on Saturday, it was still a successful week for the Eagles.

After falling in their first game against Stranahan, the Eagles won a couple of games, including the “I Have a Dream Martin Luther King Challenge” against McArthur High School.

MSD vs. Stranahan

For only the third time this season, the Eagles lost a game 64-54. Sean Sucharichi recorded 18 points while Nicholas Fraizer had 11.

“That’s the type of team that shows you the level it takes to be able to meet our goals,” said Head Coach Teddy Lyons. “The streak is over, but these boys believe in each other, and they have bigger goals in front of them right now.”

MSD vs. Plantation

The Eagles picked up their 11th win of the season against Plantation High School by 82-43 despite being down two starters. Brandon GoPaul led the way with 16, while Ty Stevens had 15 points. Diego Rodriguez and Wesley Aurelus chipped in with nine each.

“We didn’t start the way we wanted, that’s for sure,” Coach Lyons said. “I wasn’t happy at all with our poor get-off. The guys locked in after half, and we pulled away.”

MSD vs. McArthur

In their final game, MSD defeated McArthur 57-54 on Saturday for win number 12.

Diego Rodriguez had 13 points relentlessly attacking the rim. He also hit two clutch free throws at the end of the game before McArthur missed a three-pointer at the buzzer. Wesley Aurelus scored ten along with several big rebounds down the stretch. Also, Sucharichi scored eight in the teams.

“I knew this was going to be a muddy game,” Coach Lyons said. “They were physical with us. The guys are doing a good job staying mentally tough. We’re telling the boys that these are the types of games that we have to find a way to win.”

Next, the Eagles will have another busy week with three games. They start playing North Miami Beach on Monday, Hallandale on Wednesday and then face Coconut Creek on Senior Night.
