The Marjory Stoneman Douglas’ two captains for their lacrosse team, Sammy Fisher and Lauren Figas, have each officially committed to playing lacrosse at the college level in 2021-22.
Fisher will be playing at Elon University, while Figas will be attending the University of Louisville.
Fisher, who resides in Parkland, began playing lacrosse as a freshman in high school and has played for Florida Select 2021 travel team, which she credits for allowing her the opportunity to play in college.
“Playing at the next level means the world to me,” Fisher said. “My whole life has been about sports, and I wouldn’t want it any other way. Knowing that I have the potential to play at the next level really gives me the confidence to go and succeed.”
She also gives a lot of credit to her father, Mitch, her mother, Jen, and her brother, Matt, for helping her get to the point. Fisher also is thankful for all her teammates that she has been able to play with at MSD that she considers family.
For Figas, who also is from Parkland, started playing lacrosse at five-years-old for the RedHawks Rec. team. She is extremely thankful for her mother, Melissa and her brothers, Austin and Shane.
Both these players will be key to bringing a District Championship back to Parkland this Spring when their season begins.
“I’m so excited to have these two senior captains lead our team this year.” Head Coach Kristina Stein said. “They have both worked really hard to earn their spots at amazing schools. They are great role models for our younger players.”
