It has been an unusual season for the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Football team. However, they still advanced to the playoffs for the second straight year despite only playing two regular-season games.
The Eagles have their first practice on December 1 and are looking forward to continuing the season, despite only having three days to prepare for Christopher Columbus High School on December 4.
“We just want to get back on the field,” said Head Coach Quentin Short. “I’m excited for the kids. Since we’ve been canceled the past two weeks, it is another opportunity for our players to play.”
MSD has had a strong year from many of their defensive players. They did not allow an offensive touchdown all season and were led by senior Nick Dobbs on the defensive line, who had 16 tackles, six tackles for a loss, two sacks, and two pass breaks up in two games.
Josh Frais has been equally as good on the defensive line and is second on the team in tackles, while Alex Brotton leads the team with three sacks. Jaydin Fernandez and Geovanni Vilsaint have the teams two interceptions, and Daniel Bobes and Jahrel Wilson have been stellar as well.
Offensively, Matt O’Dowd missed part of the game against Coral Springs with an injury but still managed to complete 22-43 passes for 220 yards and three touchdowns so far.
A.J. Darring, Derek Geffrard and Christopher Darius rushed for over 100 yards and have all scored a touchdown behind a great offensive line consisting of University of Miami Commit Michael McLaughlin, Demetri Robinson, Aris Skarecki, Luc Laforge, and Prince Aldeus.
“Our O-line has worked hard this last offseason to be prepared this year,” said McLaughlin. “All five of our guys have been doing a good job of doing their assignment and opening up holes for the guys in the backfield.”
The Eagles have had seven different receivers catch a pass this year. Mark Dorsett leads the team with eight catches for 44 yards, and Hervin Louis had two of his six catches go for scores.
