Monarch and Coconut Creek Top Stars Compete in BCAA All-Star Games

The Broward County Athletic Association held its All-Star games following the spring sports season. 

In flag football, Monarch had Christie Boisnord and Shombria Mitchell played from Monarch in their 20-7 win over South Central on May 16.

The Knights went 5-8 this year with wins over Somerset Prep, West Broward, Coral Glades, Hollywood Hills, and Coconut Creek High School in the postseason before falling to Blanche Ely High School. 

The Cougars finished the season with three wins, including one against Monarch as well as victories against West Broward and Northeast High School. 

In volleyball, Darren Dowdell played for Coconut Creek on May 26 after his team won seven matches this year. 

Sara Phipps of Monarch played in the softball All-Star Game on May 30. She led the team with a .448 batting average, with three home runs and 14 RBIs. The Knights made regionals after winning five games. 

Shamal Fredricks was the lone Cougar from the baseball two to be selected Hunter Nelson and Lyonel Barthelemy were picked from Monarch after helping the Knights reach regionals.

They were also named to the All-District Team. They were picked as outfielders, with both players hitting over. 333. Barthelememy, who is set to attend South Florida State College, had a home run and scored 21 runs, while Nelson also homered and drove in 18 runs. He will be playing at Central College in Iowa next year.

Brayden Slade was made the All-District Team as a utility player. While he is set to play college football at the University of Florida, Slade hit .319 this year and knocked in eight runs. Vinny Mercado was also picked as a utility player and will attend South Florida State College next year after leading the team in batting average, doubles, triples, and home runs.
