The North Broward Prep girls’ basketball team got their first taste of a championship this year, winning a pair of games at Windermere Prep.

“It was a great feeling,” said Head Coach Gardner Michel. “In the last eight days, we have won four out of five games.”

In the first game, the Eagles defeated Episcopal School of Jacksonville 71-43 on Monday behind 30 points from Riley Weiss. She also had seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

Alexa Schwartz added 19 points, seven rebounds, and six assists, while Kaydie Sturm had 15 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Samantha Edelson also chipped in with five points, and Ana Abelleira recorded five rebounds.

“During the game, we got to an early lead and played solid defense to build on the lead throughout the game,” said Michel added. “Our leading scorers were able to get to their spots on the floor and be efficient.”

The Eagles then defeated Cardinal Newman High School 55-53 in overtime in the final Tuesday afternoon. Weiss finished as the MVP of the tournament, while Schwartz was named to the All-Tournament Team.
