Parkland has a new romance author.
Emily Sam, a 23-year-old writer, college student, and 2016 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School graduate, released her first novel “Chasing Daffodils” on Oct. 27.
The book follows the journey of Jade Everly, a 24-year-old aspiring actress living in New York City. While Jade attends auditions and works as a barista in Brooklyn, she begins a search for “Mr. Right.”
Jade wants a meaningful relationship, a date she can bring to the upcoming wedding of her ex-boyfriend Noah and childhood friend Suzy. But that’s just the beginning of her adventures.
Sam said she got the idea for the book during her senior year at MSD. Between her studies and performing with the school’s color guard, Sam started writing during every spare moment, expanding the story even as she took college classes and worked as a nanny.
“Gaining attention and praise from teachers for my ability to captivate readers convinced me that I wanted to be a writer one day,” said Sam, a full-time nursing student at Broward College.
Sam said her life experiences and people she met helped shape and inspire her book’s characters and plot.
“My goal is to reach the new-adult contemporary reader,” she said.
