Detectives searching for an assailant who stabbed a man at Winston Park and Nature Trail in Coconut Creek Saturday are asking for surveillance video from the public.

According to a written announcement Thursday from the Coconut Creek Police Department, detectives “have been working non-stop on the April 20 stabbing investigation and have developed several strong leads as a result.”

Police asked residents of the Hilton Estates, Cypress Estates, Huntington, and Breckenridge West communities to share with them any doorbell or surveillance video from their properties taken on April 20 between 3:15 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Detectives have also been going door-to-door in those neighborhoods.

“We are specifically interested in any juvenile, or juveniles, your cameras might have picked up on that day, during that time frame,” police said.

Anyone with video can coordinate their sharing the footage with police by contacting Coconut Creek Police official Scotty Leamon at sleamon@coconutcreek.net.

Saturday’s stabbing happened around 4:16 p.m. and left the victim seriously injured, police said. The crime set off a manhunt in the nature preserve’s woods, where investigators believed the assailant ran after the attack.

Police from Coconut Creek, Margate, Coral Springs, and a Broward Sheriff’s Office helicopter searched for the assailant for hours before announcing the person was not in the woods.

Police have not provided a description of the attacker.

The stabbing victim was taken for treatment to Broward Health Medical Center. An update on his condition was not immediately available Thursday.

Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to call Coconut Creek Police at 954-973-6700.

“This remains a very active investigation,” police said.
