Heroic Security Guard Captures Phone Thief After Daring Bus Robbery

Gregory Jacques {BSO}

A security guard at Wynmoor Village in Coconut Creek caught a man who allegedly robbed a woman of her phone on a county bus, police said.

Gregory Jacques, 39, of Lauderdale Lakes, was charged with robbery by sudden snatching. According to court records, he was booked into the Broward Main Jail and ordered held without bond in connection with a court order in what appeared to be a separate criminal mischief case.

Jacques allegedly snatched the phone out of the Lauderhill woman’s hands on April 23 as she rode the county transit bus on Coconut Creek Parkway, Coconut Creek Police said.

The accused robber stole the phone and fled just as the bus arrived at its regular stop in front of the Wynmoor community, police said.

The victim watched Jacques head into Wynmoor, but she couldn’t keep up with his pace and soon lost sight of him, according to officers.

The victim flagged down the Wynmoor Village security guard who found Jacques in the 1100 block of Wynmoor Way, police said. The guard held him there until officers arrived.

“Nice work by that attentive Wynmoor security guard in assisting in this arrest,” police said in a written announcement of the arrest.
