The American Cancer Society (ACS) Relay For Life of Parkland, Coral Springs, Margate, and Coconut Creek invites the communities to attend the annual Relay survivor and caregiver celebration.

Held on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Relay For Life is a community of like-minded survivors, caregivers, volunteers, and participants who believe that the future can be free from cancer. It continues to be the largest peer-to-peer fundraising event, with 2.5 million participants globally uniting to save lives from cancer.

“During this difficult time, cancer won’t stop, and neither will we,” said event lead Megan Mila. “We are bringing our traditional Relay back to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School with a big focus on fun for the whole community.

This year’s theme is Not All Heroes Wear Capes, where more than 40 teams and 500 participants join together to raise funds and awareness to free the world from the pain and suffering of cancer.

Chris Fletcher, entertainment chairperson and cancer survivor said, “Our goal is to host over 100 cancer survivors and their caregivers at the event. The opening ceremony will include a special Survivors Lap. Survivors and their caregivers will also enjoy a complimentary dinner. After sunset, we light Luminarias to remember those we have lost, celebrate cancer survivors, and show those affected by cancer that they are not alone.”

According to the American Cancer Society, its mission matters more than ever. The needs of people facing cancer continue, and so does their work. Cancer patients still need support during this crisis. Funds raised help the American Cancer Society to continue with cancer research, the 24/7 helpline, and for continuing services to get patients the care and support they need.

Community members can join Relay For Life teams to fundraise virtually and continue the fight through additional fundraising events.

“We are so honored to host multiple events to support the American Cancer Society in such times of need,” said Mila. “We have added a Swing Fore a Cure golf tournament on April 30 at the Country Club of Coral Springs.

Relay For Life of Parkland, Coral Springs, Margate, and Coconut Creek is supported by Memorial Cancer Institute, JK Closing Attorneys, AutoNation, Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation, Gunther Motor Company, Coldwell Banker Realty, Burie Group at Morgan Stanley, MVP Environmental Solutions, Iguana Control, VYVE and School of Rock Broward County, among others.
