The city of Coconut Creek has unveiled a new recycling program dedicated to glass materials.

Situated behind the local police department at 4800 West Copans Road, city officials have announced that the South Recycling Drop-Off Center will now welcome residents and businesses to contribute to environmental conservation by recycling their glass items.

Residents and businesses in Coconut Creek have access to the Recycle Right Drop-Off Center, located at Northwest 22 Street and Lyons Road. It is open Friday through Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Various glass containers are eligible for drop-off, including soda and beer bottles, juice bottles, mason jars, liquor, wine, condiment bottles, and even glassware.

Mirrors, automotive glass, dishware, light bulbs, crystal, tempered glass, and plastic bags are not eligible for recycling.

According to the city, the new program has been made possible through a collaboration with Strategic Materials Inc., a firm renowned for recycling glass for many uses. The collected glass will be processed from the drop-off center and sent to the company’s Sarasota office.

Residents must present proof of residency, such as a driver’s license, identification card, or current utility bill, to participate. Businesses are required to show a copy of their current business tax receipt.
