Coconut Creek Showdown: Monarch & Creek High Schools Compete in a Championship-filled Week

High school sports in Coconut Creek had another busy week with football, the district championship in volleyball, and the BCAA Championship in swimming and cross country.

Monarch 

Monarch’s football team fell against the 11th-ranked team in the country 35-19 in St. Thomas Aquinas. Jabari Brady scored a touchdown on the game’s first play, while offensive lineman Melvin Puckett also caught a pass for a score.

The Knights will go for their second straight District Championship next week against Coral Springs High School on Thursday, October 26, at 7 p.m. The Colts are 4-4 this year but lost 42-0 in their only meeting with the Knights last season. 

The girls volleyball team completed a terrific session, beating Coral Springs High School in the opening round of the District Tournament in three sets. However, they fell against a talented Marjory Stoneman Douglas team 25-17, 25-15, 25-17 to finish their season 13-7.

In swim, the boys team finished in 18th place, while the girls placed 21st. Juan Pelaez, Samuel Lara Cuadro, Andrei Reyna-Matiut, Vinicius Camargo, Hailey Quinn, Ava Trotman, Mariana Bolivar, and Gabriela Bolivar swam for the Knights.

Coconut Creek football improved to 7-2 on the season with a win over McArthur 39-0. The Cougars will play Deerfield Beach High School in their next game on Friday, October 27, at 7 p.m. The Bucks are 2-5 this year with wins over Coral Glades and Boyd H Anderson High School. They also 18-7 in their only meeting last season with Coconut Creek.

The girls volleyball team had a late start to the season and won nine matches before falling against Deerfield Beach High School 25-6, 25-12, 25-17.

The cross country team had the boys finish in 20th place, led by Jeremiah Accius. Tyler Joseph, Benjamin Duverna, and John Jacques followed him. The girls had two runners compete with Salaya Campbell and Destiny Wells.
