Cybertip Leads to Arrest of Man on 10 Counts of Child Pornography

A Coconut Creek man was arrested and charged with multiple counts of possession and distribution of pornography following an investigation led by the South Florida Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.

According to Coconut Creek Police Department records, the man, identified as Phillip Marus Wilson, 24, of Coconut Creek, was arrested on April 3 at his residence, which is located near the 4200 block of Carambola Circle South.

The investigation began when the company Dropbox, which stores backup data, reported two instances of child pornography being uploaded by one of its subscribers to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) on December 26, 2023.

The Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office initially received the tip, which was later assigned to a specialized agent of the ICAC Task Force on January 9.

According to the CyberTips received from Dropbox, the accounts in question were registered under the email addresses associated with Wilson’s usernames. A subsequent subpoena to Comcast revealed that the IP address associated with these uploads was registered to the home where Wilson resided, and he was eventually arrested.

Upon obtaining a search warrant, the ICAC Task Force and the Broward Sheriff’s Office Digital Forensics Unit executed the warrant. They discovered extensive evidence of Wilson in possession of child pornography.

Records show investigators found dozens of files containing illegal content on Wilson’s desktop computer and additional files on a linked MEGA cloud storage account.

Upon interview, Wilson admitted to owning the email addresses and controlling the Dropbox accounts linked to the uploads. He also confessed to clicking links containing illegal content, which were saved to his devices and cloud storage, according to the records.

The files found in Wilson’s possession predominantly featured adults in explicit acts with female children under the age of 7 years old.

Wilson was arrested and charged with ten counts of possession of pornography and one count of computer pornography. He was transferred to the Broward County Main Jail, where he was released after posting a $10,000 bond.
