Valerie, a snow-white border collie, is learning to trust humans and accept love again after being rescued from a distressing hoarding case in March.
After living in tight quarters with 60 other dogs, Valerie arrived at Broward County Animal Care covered in urine, noticeably underweight, and incredibly shy.
Now in foster care, Valerie has made remarkable progress in her recovery. This sweet and gentle lady is gradually learning to trust again, showcasing her resilience and capacity for love.
Previously fearful of people, Valerie would wait for her foster parents to leave before feeling comfortable enough to eat. Now, she has reached a point where she willingly takes food from people’s hands and accepts affectionate rubs and gentle pets. It is a heartwarming transformation that inspires hope for her future.

“We believe that there are better days ahead for Valerie,” said a Broward County Animal Care staff member. “She needs a loving home and a patient family to help her learn how to behave like a typical dog. While she may require additional training in housebreaking and leash-walking, we are confident that with the right environment, Valerie will continue to thrive.”

The Adoption Center at Broward County Animal Care is located at 2400 SW 42 Street, Fort Lauderdale, and is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Adoptions are at no cost and include spaying/neutering, vaccinations, a microchip, and a Broward County pet license tag.
