A man faces multiple charges of assault with a deadly weapon and neglect of a child after pulling a firearm on the mother of his child in the Silverspot Cinema parking lot.

On Thursday, February 8, officers from the Coconut Creek Police Department responded to a 911 domestic incident involving a firearm in the parking lot at 4441 Lyons Road.

According to records, CCPD was called to the scene by a victim who reported a dispute between herself and her child’s father, later identified as James Twitty, 28, of Fort Lauderdale, had escalated from a verbal altercation to a chaotic scene where Twitty allegedly pointed a gun with a laser at her multiple times.

The victim told officers the incident began after Twitty met her in the parking lot for a routine exchange of their child. A verbal dispute erupted over childcare responsibilities and unresolved financial matters, eventually becoming physical.

Records show the victim claimed matters allegedly grew extremely heated after the victim viewed their child sitting on the floorboard of the vehicle Twitter had been driving.

According to the victim’s statement, Twitty forcefully pulled her into his vehicle. After she punched him to escape, he stepped out of the car, pulled out a firearm, and pointed the gun with a blue laser beam directly at her face, blinding her ability to see.

Fearing for her safety and that of their child, the victim managed to retrieve her child from the vehicle and run. However, Twitty again pointed the weapon at her, this time at her chest as she held their child, yelling, “I’m going to kill you.”

After Twitty eventually fled the scene before officers responded, deputies responded to Twitty’s Fort Lauderdale residence and detained him without further incident.

Twitty was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. He was later released after posting a $12,000 bond.
