Virtual Event ‘In Jacob’s Shoes’ will Wow Supporters at 10th Annual Fundraiser

By Sharon Aron Baron

Enjoy a fabulous evening all from the comfort of your own home when In Jacob’s Shoes will host its 10th Annual “Every Sole Counts” Virtual Fundraiser, benefiting local children in need.

Held on Thursday, October 29, at 7:30 p.m. (the pre-show starts at 7:15 p.m.). Bid on your favorite items during the online auction while you enjoy a musical performance by Fiesta Bobs, heartwarming presentations, and toast the distinguished honorees.

In Jacob’s Shoes was established in honor of Jacob S. Zweig, who was tragically killed in 2008 at 17. Jacob enjoyed volunteering and inspired many people in his short life. To honor Jacob’s legacy, his family and friends wanted to support local organizations and continue Jacob’s way of treating others with dignity and inclusion.

This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award Recipients The Honorable Peter Weinstein and Dr. Barbara Weinstein, Community Leadership Award Recipient Coral Springs Vice Mayor Joy Carter, and Star Volunteer Award Recipient Randi Pollack.

Some of their exciting live and silent auction items include multiple vacation stays, a cruise, a trip to Africa, a private paella chef, jewelry, art, and restaurant & shopping gift certificates.

One hundred percent of the proceeds benefit In Jacob’s Shoes. Since 2009, In Jacob’s Shoes has provided over 150,000 pairs of shoes and 9,000 backpacks complete with school supplies to local children & families in need.

When the community was shuttered due to the pandemic, In Jacob’s Shoes found a way to safely provide 12,000 pairs of shoes to those in need throughout South Florida.

“Just because businesses and schools closed down, it did not remove the need of the children and families we serve year-round,” said In Jacob’s Shoes President and co-founder Harlene Zweig.

“The need is much greater and has since increased due to so many families losing their jobs in this pandemic and finding themselves without the income and support they rely on for necessities including shoes and socks.”

Since 2009, In Jacob’s Shoes has been hosting its annual signature fundraiser in person every spring. With the onset of the pandemic, the charity was forced to postpone its much-anticipated event into the fall and convert to a virtual format so that In Jacob’s Shoes’ supporters, sponsors, staff, and volunteers could remain safe.

In Jacob’s Shoes relies on the event’s success to provide new and used shoes, socks, backpacks, school supplies, and sports equipment to children in need locally—and this year is no exception.

“The need is ever-growing, and that was even before the pandemic emerged,” said Zweig. “We have seen the resilience of our community to get through these tough times, and we are relying on that enthusiasm and perseverance for our October 29 event to raise critical funds and to provide a night of much-needed fun for our supporters.”
