The Coconut Creek police department had an unusual rescue mission on their hands when they received a call about a kitten trapped in a car engine last week.
After some creative problem-solving, the officers safely freed the little feline and hand it over to a local foster until the kitten finds a forever home.
Scotty Leamon, Public Safety Information Officer for the Coconut Creek Police Department, said a woman heard the cat meowing as she sat at a stoplight on West Hillsboro Boulevard. Realizing the kitten must be in the vehicle nearby, she pulled into the plaza at the 4800 block and called 911.
Leamon added that the kitten-saving mission was a collective effort with Coconut Creek Fire Rescue.
“Animal Services Officer Shoffner and Police Service Aide Lazar worked with the firefighters and were eventually able to coax the cat to an area where they could safely remove it from the engine block,” he said.
The kitten is now safe with a foster family and will hopefully be adopted soon.
