Congregation Kol Tikvah hosts a virtual book and author discussion with Parkland resident and now author Fred Guttenberg to discuss his new book Find the Helpers: What 9/11 and Parkland Taught Me about Recovery, Purpose, and Hope.
“Specifically, I will discuss how I moved forward from February 14 with the help and support of others,” said Guttenberg.
Released in September, the book focuses on the various helpers in Guttenberg’s life—friends, family members, strangers, activists, first responders, and others—who made the worst moments of his life, the passing of his brother on 9/11 and his teenage daughter, Jaime, in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, a little softer.
“I hope to share why I remain hopeful in spite of what happened,” said Guttenberg.
Earlier this year, Guttenberg represented Florida in the Democratic National Convention’s Roll Call and later became a surrogate for presidential candidate Vice President Joe Biden.
The Democratic nominee, Biden, helped Guttenberg early on navigate the changes that he and his wife might experience due to the tragic loss of his child—a loss Biden himself was familiar with.
Now, Guttenberg hopes to pass the wisdom forward, helping others navigate grief through embracing the helpers they meet along the way.
