Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School has been awarded a prestigious 2021 gold level College Success Award from GreatSchools.org, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering parents in education, organizers announced Monday.
Launched in 2018, the College Success Award recognizes and celebrates public high schools across the country that excel in helping students enroll and succeed in college. This year, 11 Broward County Public Schools high schools are among 18,838 schools from 25 states honored with the annual award.
The College Success Award added the gold level distinction this year to honor schools with a multi-year track record of success in preparing students for college.
Gold awardees have won two or more College Success Awards since the program began, with at least one win in 2020 or 2021, organizers said.
Based on high school and postsecondary data provided by state education agencies, the award offers a snapshot of how well a high school prepares its students to enroll in college, succeed with college-level coursework, and continue into their second year.
“Our schools have made great strides in preparing our students for future success in college and beyond,” said BCPS Interim Superintendent Dr. Vickie Cartwright. “We congratulate our school leaders and teachers for their dedication and commitment to our students that has earned each school this outstanding recognition.”
In addition to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, ten other BCPS high schools are being recognized with a 2021 gold level College Success Award. They are:

Everglades High School
Fort Lauderdale High School
Nova High School
Pompano Beach Institute of International Studies
West Broward High School
Western High School
