A Monarch High School student was arrested after making death threats toward another student, both in person and on social media.
On November 14, the Coconut Creek Police Department received a call from a Monarch High School student who reported a series of threats he received via Instagram.
According to the report, the student first claimed to a School Resource Officer that Jared Frank, 19, of Coconut Creek, had threatened him after he was leaving a soccer game with a friend on November 13. The victim told officers Frank approached him at the intersection of Wiles Road and Cullum Road, where Frank allegedly told him, “I’ll kill you right now,” before driving away.
The next day, the victim told law enforcement they started receiving threatening messages on Instagram from Frank’s account, “Jman.954,” that reportedly included statements such as, “Like I said, I see you around the same spot or around promenade or even in Broward County. I’m getting out my car and shooting you. Got that clear.”
The victim further explained that he used to associate with Frank’s ex-girlfriend about a year ago and believes this history may be the reason behind the threats.
Feeling afraid for his safety and suspecting that Frank possessed firearms, the report shows the victim first approached School Resource Officers and expressed his desire to prosecute. The Coconut Creek Police Department was notified and began conducting an investigation involving meeting with Frank.
The report indicates concerns from investigating officers heightened after they learned that Frank had allegedly posted an image of a firearm on Snapchat. This information was corroborated by a copy of the image provided by the victim, which appeared to resemble an H&K pistol.
On November 17, law enforcement contacted Frank, requesting a meeting to discuss the allegations. However, Frank declined. Subsequently, on November 19, the CCPD Special Enforcement Team apprehended Frank and transported him to the Coconut Creek Police Department.
During questioning, Frank admitted to sending threatening messages via his Instagram account “JMAN.954” to the victim. Frank stated that the conflict stemmed from a past relationship with a mutual acquaintance.
While he claimed he did not intend to harm the victim, Frank admitted to wanting to intimidate him.
After interviews and further investigation, Frank was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. He was later released after posting a $5,000 bond.
