Parkland Crime Update: School Violence and Fraud

Through our joint effort with the Broward Sheriff’s Office to share updates to residents, this is a summary of crimes and other Parkland incidents through November 8, 2021. 

Information

Riverglades Elementary School

On 11/03/2021, school administrators told deputies that a teacher’s aide grabbed a student by the arm as the student was misbehaving and swinging his lunchbox—no evidence of criminality.

Somerset Parkland Academy

On 11/04/2021, a juvenile student became physical and belligerent toward staff.

Westglades Middle School

On 11/02/2021, a student posted a picture of a gun online. An investigation revealed there was no intent of threat associated with the image.

Fraud

NW 72nd Pl.

On 11/07/2021, a 54-year-old female was the victim of Fraud – Credit Card. The victim alleged an unknown suspect used her credit card information and fraudulently charged it by purchasing numerous items.

Theft

On 11/03/2021, a 91-year-old female was the victim of Theft/Credit Card Fraud in Parkland. Her purse was stolen from a dining hall, and credit cards were used to make fraudulent purchases online. Tot. Est. Loss: $187.

NW 62nd St.

On 11/04/2021, a 66-year-old male was the victim of Theft. Tot. Est. Loss: $360.

Threat Assessment Report

Park Trails Elementary School

On 11/02/2021, deputies met with an assistant principal. Behavioral Threat Assessment completed. N. Pine Island Rd.

Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School

On 11/02/2021, a Behavioral Threat Assessment was conducted for a student who committed Battery against staff and fellow students.
