The City of Parkland and OneBlood are hosting a blood drive on Tuesday, July 12, from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. at Pine Trails Park, located at 10555 Trails End.
Donors receive a $20 eGift card, a OneBlood towel, and a wellness checkup that includes screening blood pressure, pulse rate, temperature, iron count, and cholesterol levels.
According to Mayor Rich Walker, the blood drives are part of the city’s long-time partnership with OneBlood. OneBlood also teamed up with Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School’s JROTC program in September 2021 and February 2022.
“There is always a need for blood donors, and with that need, [it is] a great opportunity for our community to come together to help others,” Walker said.
Eligible donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh 110 pounds, and be in good health.
“Parkland residents have long been invested in helping others,” said Todd DeAngelis, the City of Parkland spokesman. “This is yet another opportunity for our residents to come together in the interest of helping others.”
DeAngelis added that blood and platelet donations have generally been trending low since the beginning of the year, but he hopes that the upcoming blood drive will make a difference.
“Our hope, of course, is that our efforts in this community will contribute to reversing that trend,” he said.
