North Broward prep kicked off 2023 in style, with three teams picking up their first win of the new year.
Boys Basketball
The boys basketball team competed over winter break and went 2-0 in showcases. They then resumed regular season action on Tuesday with a dominant 73-37 victory over Archbishop American Heritage School to move to 9-5. This was the first time the Eagles eclipsed 70 points this season, and the 36-point differential was the highest since a 63-16 win back in February over Glades Central.
Ryan Weiss led the team with 16 points, Ben Daniels, Ian Astiazarain, and Pavle Djeric all finished in double figures, while three other players recorded at least five points. NBP then recorded a 52-51 win against Gulliver Prep on Thursday. Ryan scored the final 11 points for the Eagles in the teams tenth victory this season. He had 17 in the game while Enrico Borio scored 13 points and nine rebounds. Ben Daniels and Raul Perez Ruiz both had 11.
“I didn’t think we were great tonight until the fourth quarter,” said Head Coach Casey Wohlleb. “Ryan was just composed and just continued to trust himself. He made big-time plays.”
Next, NBP will take on Pince Crest on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 7 p.m. The Panthers are 4-5 this year and 75-34 in their lone meeting last season.
Girls Basketball
Next, the Eagles will play American Heritage on Saturday, Jan. 7, at 3 p.m. as both teams have combined to win 21 games this season. Riley Weiss once again led the team with 21 points. Alexa Schwartz added 16, while Kaydie Sturm had 15. Head Coach Garnder Michel called it a nice win to start the new year despite having a two-week break for the holiday.
