Benefit Concert Held for Carmen Schentrup’s Research Fund

A benefit concert on Sunday featuring a cappella band Backtrack, will benefit a research fund set up by the family Carmen Schentrup.

Carmen, 16, was one of 17 victims who was killed by a school shooter at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on February 14.

A senior at Marjory Stoneman Douglas, Carmen would never learn she was a National Merit Scholar Finalist. The letter would come to her home the day after she died. She was accepted into the University of Florida Honors Program and as a University of Washington Purple and Gold Scholar, planned to begin college in the fall.

“Carmen wanted to make the world a better place. She was determined to become a leading medical researcher and discover a cure for ALS. We truly believe that Carmen was going to change the world,” said Carmen’s mother April Schentrup.

The family established the Carmen Schentrup ALS Research Fund to support research into a cure for ALS. Any donations made to the fund will go directly to ALS research through The ALS Association.

Backtrack is an award-winning, five-person a cappella group based in New York City that explores the power of the human voice through unique vocal arrangements, tight harmonies and world-class beatboxing.

The concert will be held at Sunday, April 22, 2018 at 7:30 pm at St. Mary Help Christians Catholic Church 5980 N. University Drive, Parkland FL 33067. Tickets are $10 at the door.
