Thai and Vietnamese flavors have arrived at The Walk of Coral Springs with the grand opening of Veranda Kitchen & Bar.
When Sonka Nguyen and her husband, chef Hai Pham, moved to South Florida from Maine, they knew they wanted to bring a little piece of their culinary journey with them. Now, they’re inviting the Coral Springs community to experience it firsthand.
Last Wednesday, Veranda Kitchen & Bar officially opened its doors at The Walk of Coral Springs, offering a menu that celebrates the flavors of Thailand and Vietnam.
Housed in the former Yellow Yolk location at 2864 University Drive, the restaurant brings a fresh new energy to The Walk's courtyard, complete with outdoor seating by the fountain.
"The opening was excellent and gave the staff on hand time to interact with locals," said Nguyen, who co-owns the restaurant. "The feedback was good, and we felt very welcomed in this community."
The Nguyens – both from Huế, a beautiful coastal city in South Vietnam – are no strangers to the restaurant business. In Maine, they founded and operated several beloved spots, including Veranda Thai, Veranda Noodle Bar, and Veranda Kitchen & Bar in Westbrook. But South Florida offers a different kind of opportunity—and a new beginning.
"This location is definitely very different from Maine," Nguyen said. "Here we will have to start from the beginning, to build our brand, whereas in Maine, Veranda is already known and loved. It’s harder here, but exciting at the same time."
Drawn to the area's growing appetite for authentic Asian cuisine, the couple found the perfect location just a short drive from their new home in Parkland.
"We’re fascinated by the rich culture of South Florida," Nguyen said. "And when a space opened at The Walk, we got excited. Initially, we chose it for the convenience, but after meeting the people who run the plaza and our neighbors, we grew to appreciate and love it even more."
Gillian Johnson, marketing director for Amera at The Walk, said Veranda Kitchen & Bar brings a fresh addition to the plaza’s growing lineup of eateries.
“We are excited for the Veranda Kitchen and Bar to open at The Walk,” said Johnson. “Their cuisine will offer greater diversity to the Coral Springs dining scene. It’s perfect for the Coral Springs community and the lifestyle they like to enjoy.”
At Veranda, guests can expect the best of both worlds. The menu combines favorites from the couple’s Thai and Vietnamese kitchens—think traditional Pad Thai, savory stir-fries cooked to order, and the rich, slow-simmered Phở that takes over ten hours to prepare.
No matter which dish a customer orders, the quality and authenticity of what they receive are the theme that rings true throughout the menu.
“Our menu is the best of both worlds,” Nguyen said. “We have a great selection of appetizers, and everything is carefully made. Even the fillings are hand-selected."
The restaurant also features a full bar, with plans to roll out happy hour specials soon, including $4 drafts and wine, $7 cocktails, and half-off appetizers.
