Chicago Cubs Anthony Rizzo Presented with ‘Mayor’s Medal’ at His Annual Cancer Fundraiser

Anthony Rizzo, Chicago Cubs First Baseman, was presented on Sunday morning with the “Mayor’s Medal of Charitable Service” at the Sixth Annual Walk Off for Cancer in Parkland.

“I could not have picked a better person to receive the first Mayor’s Medal of Charitable Service,” said Mayor Christine Hunschofsky.

Rizzo’s hometown in Florida is the site of the annual charity event his foundation holds which raises money for cancer research which provides support to children and their families battling the disease. He was inspired after his own personal experience after being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma back in 2008 at the age of 18.

The medal was created to honor Parkland residents or those whose deeds have heavily impacted residents and Sunday’s presentation of this honor was the city’s first ever.

Hunschofsky said, “Anthony’s unwavering commitment to the cause of fighting cancer and the manner in which he conducts himself are truly charitable. We are so proud of him and so grateful he chooses to keep coming back to Parkland and giving back.”
