Extensive renovations will begin on the Fleet Services building in Coconut Creek at 4900 West Copans Road.
During the October 10 meeting, the Coconut Creek Commission approved a $175,795 agreement with Walters Zackria Associates for Architectural and Engineering Design Services.
The Fleet Services building is essential to the city’s preparation for disasters. It services the city’s fleet of vehicles, including police, fire, transit, code, public works, and utilities. According to city manager Sheila Rose, the renovation design will include installing more efficient lighting and adding a large solar array on the roof.
The renovation project will unfold in several stages. The first phase will involve structural hardening of the entire building and removing cupola structures. The installation of a new standing seam metal roof, new impact-rated aluminum windows, a new gutter and downspout system, and new flooring throughout the offices will follow.
The city has applied for $1.7 million in state grant funding for the project. According to Rose, the design work is expected to take about six months, and construction is slated to begin in the fall of 2025 and conclude within a year.
