Improvements will be made to the city’s telecommunications tower at Lakeside Park.
On April 24, the commission approved an ordinance on first reading to amend the lease agreement between the city and Cellco Partnership, doing business as Verizon Wireless, which provides for the modification of equipment on the Tower.
Coconut Creek owns the telecommunications tower at 5555 Regency Lakes Boulevard in the city’s Lakeside Park and leases space to several tenants via lease agreements.
On December 8, 2022, the commission approved an ordinance authorizing the mayor to execute the first Amendment to the agreement. This amendment allowed Verizon to install additional equipment at the site and increase the number of antennas on the tower, resulting in a rent increase, according to city information.
Verizon wants to amend the agreement to modify the equipment on the Tower, which will not substantially increase the loading factor on the Tower. Verizon intends to modify its equipment within the existing leased space without an increase in rent for modifications.
The commission has decided that it is in the best interest of the residents to execute the second Amendment to the lease agreement with Verizon at Lakeside Park. The agreement provides for the lease of city-owned land and space on an existing tower to construct and maintain a communications facility.
The term is for ten years, with two five-year renewals. The rent will be $39,900 per year, with annual increases of 3 percent, according to city information.
