High School basketball and soccer are underway in Coconut Creek, and teams are looking to make a run to the postseason.
The Monarch High School boys basketball team dropped their first two matches this year, losing 55-43 and 51-47. The girls team has lost all three of their games, playing Piper, Western, and Nova High School
The Coconut Creek High School boys basketball team beat Hollywood Hills High School by 34 points in their first game before losing to St. Thomas Aquinas High School. The girls team is set to begin their season on Friday, November 29, against Wellington High School after going 8-11 last year.
The North Broward Prep basketball team is 2-0 following a 67-45 win over Archbishop McCarthy High School before their win over Langston Hughes High School on Monday in their first tournament game.
The girls team dropped their first game against Palmer Trinity but beat Calvary Christian Academy and Pine Crest School. Both Alexa Schwartz and Kaydie Sturm reached 1,000 career points.
On the soccer field, the Monarch boys’ team has 1-0 wins this year over Plantation and Coral Springs Hugh School. They have played six other matches, five of them a draw against Fort Lauderdale High School.
The girls’ team played in five matches and beat Plantation High School 9-1 and Coral Springs High School 1-0. They also tied against South Plantation High School.
The North Broward Prep boys team is 2-5 following wins against Calvary Christian Academy and West Boca Raton High School.
The girls team is 4-1-1, with their lone loss coming to Cooper City High School. They played to a 0-0 draw against Marjory Stoneman Douglas while beating Coral Glades, Calvary Christian Academy, Pine Crest, and Fort Lauderdale High School.
