Coconut Creek Commission Approves Rezoning Ordinance for Passive Park

Coconut Creek residents will soon have a new park where they can walk, play Frisbee, or enjoy a picnic.

During the February 13 meeting, the commission approved on second reading an ordinance to rezone properties located at 4100 and 4250 Northwest 74 Street from agricultural to parks and recreation. This will facilitate the expansion of the existing Oak Trails Park. The 15 acres will be considered a passive park.

According to Commissioner Joshua Rydell, this ordinance will preserve land from development. He said it should be a passive park, a place for people to relax with family and friends.

Mayor Sandra Welch said she was happy with the project and that residents would benefit from a passive park. She said the land would remain natural, and there would be no lighting after dusk.
