Sabal Pines Park in Coconut Creek. {Google Maps}
Coconut Creek residents interested in preparing a baseball or softball field and participating in a volunteer cleanup activity will have the opportunity.
On Saturday, July 19, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Sabal Pines Park, 5005 NW 39th Avenue, people of all ages will have the opportunity to learn how to locate and install bases and the pitching rubber, identify field anchors, and understand basic field layout and measurements. They will see a park ranger show how to drag a field and see how a chalk line device is used to line foul lines and a batter’s box.
Then from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., volunteers will be able to help preserve the park by assisting with litter collection throughout various city parks, protected preserves, and waterways.
All volunteers will be provided with gloves, a picker, and a bucket. High school student volunteers will receive volunteer hours. All ages are welcome, but those under age 17 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, according to city information.
This event is part of Coconut Creek’s celebration of Parks and Recreation Month.
