Eric Fernon is passionate about improving his 1962 Volks-Rod and has recreated his car.
“I have been working on this car for seven years and have transitioned it from a traditional Volkswagen to a sporty car," he said.
Fernon was one of 82 participants in the Coconut Creek Car Show on January 25. A Margate resident, he loves showcasing his modified Volkswagen to fellow car enthusiasts.
According to Joe Bevelacqua, better known as Cobra Joe, the event organizer, the show unites cars from the early 20th century with newer models. The Happy Daze Band entertained attendees while car owners socialized.

Mark Ridings of Coconut Creek showed his 1929 Ford Model A. He rebuilt and modernized the car to drive on highways and received a trophy for having one of the best 30 cars in the show.
“I love to take older cars and rebuild them. My first car was a 1966 Corvette, and I improved it,” he said.
Irving Rodriguez of Coral Springs brought a 2013 Camero Hot Wheels edition. He likes to work on cars and has modified them. “I love this show, and I come every year,” he said.
Don Daniels won the best-in-show trophy. He brought a 1969 Mustang and came with his grandsons Ryan and Peyton Bragg. “It was nice to win, but there were many great cars here,” he said.
Commissioner John Brodie handed out the trophies and said the show was good for the community.
